Strategies Used by College Students of Stkip YDB Lubuk Alung in Comprehending Report Text
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to describe the strategies used by students of STKIP YDB Lubuk Alung in comprehending report texts. The three strategies analyzed in this study are skimming, scanning, and dealing with unfamiliar words. This research employs a descriptive quantitative approach. Data were collected through questionnaires and a reading test in the form of multiple-choice questions. The population of the study consisted of 21 students from STKIP YDB Lubuk Alung. The data analysis results show that the average score of students' reading comprehension based on the applied strategies was 77.31. Therefore, it can be concluded that the students' comprehension of the reading test based on the use of these strategies is at an average level.
